Three top pitchers in D-III remain

With Virginia Wesleyan just moments ago claiming the final spot in the D-III Super Regionals with a 9-0 win over Randolph-Macon, let’s take a look at which of the top 10 pitchers remain after the opening round of the tournament.

Here are the top 10 pitchers in D-III this season ranked according to RA7 (Runs Allowed per 7 Innings Pitched) and how they performed in Regionals.

Player IP H R ER BB K Team

Hanna Hull, Va. Wesleyan 17 7 0 0 2 27 Advanced to Super Regional

Maitlin Raycroft, Texas Lu. 9.1 13 9 8 2 8 Eliminated from Regional

Whitney Romero, Texas-Ty. 7.2 4 2 2 0 7 Advanced to Super Regional
Jacqueline Cautela, Staten Is. 3 1 1 1 2 0 Eliminated from Regional

Lindsay Thayer and Hanna Hull continued their mastery from the circle. Thayer averaged a remarkable 2.3 strikeouts per inning in her Regional appearances, while Hull was just as impressive throwing 17 shutout innings.

Of the three remaining teams (St. John Fisher, Virginia Wesleyan, and Texas-Tyler) from above, all three seem to be good bets to advance the World Series. Not only do these three teams have outstanding pitching, but St. John Fisher and Virginia Wesleyan average almost 7 runs per game while Texas-Tyler averages almost 8 runs per game. It would be fantastic to see these ace pitchers and their juggernaut offenses qualify for Oklahoma City.
